Everything you need to know about bridging on Optimism Bridge and the OP Stack Superchain.
Optimism Bridge is Optimism's official gateway for bridging assets between Ethereum mainnet and OP Mainnet (formerly Optimism). Built on the OP Stack, Optimism Bridge lets you move ETH, USDC, DAI, and many other tokens to a fast, low-cost Layer 2 network. When you deposit funds, they are locked in a smart contract on Ethereum and minted on OP Mainnet. Withdrawals follow a challenge period to ensure security before funds are released on Ethereum.
Optimism Bridge supports bridging ETH as well as a wide range of ERC-20 tokens including USDC, USDT, DAI, WBTC, OP, and many more. The exact list of supported tokens depends on the third-party bridge provider you choose (such as Superbridge or Brid.gg). Always verify the token contract addresses on both Ethereum and OP Mainnet before initiating a transfer to avoid sending funds to the wrong address.
Deposits from Ethereum to OP Mainnet via Optimism Bridge are typically confirmed within a few minutes once the Ethereum transaction is included in a block. Withdrawals from OP Mainnet back to Ethereum require a 7-day challenge period as part of the Optimistic Rollup security model. After this period, you must finalize the withdrawal on Ethereum. Third-party bridges integrated with Optimism Bridge may offer faster withdrawals using liquidity networks, often settling in minutes.
Optimism Bridge itself does not charge a protocol fee for standard deposits or withdrawals. You will pay standard Ethereum gas fees for any transaction on L1. Transactions executed on OP Mainnet carry significantly lower gas costs — often 10–100x cheaper than Ethereum mainnet. Third-party bridge providers listed on Optimism Bridge may charge additional service fees or spreads. Always review the fee breakdown shown in your wallet before confirming any transaction.
Optimism Bridge is built on the OP Stack, an open-source and battle-tested codebase developed by Optimism. The canonical bridge contracts have been audited and are widely trusted in the Ethereum ecosystem. For wallets, Optimism Bridge supports MetaMask, WalletConnect-compatible wallets, Coinbase Wallet, Rainbow, and many others. Always access Optimism Bridge only through the official domain at https://optimismbridge.net and double-check transaction details in your wallet before signing. Never share your seed phrase with anyone.
Optimism made the deliberate decision to lean on its ecosystem of builders rather than maintain a single first-party frontend. This increases decentralization across the Superchain and helps bootstrap a distributed ecosystem of bridge providers. Optimism Bridge now curates trusted third-party frontends such as Superbridge (by Blob Engineering) and Brid.gg, while the underlying bridge contracts remain the same. You can also explore additional community-built bridges at superchain.eco.
The OP Stack is the open-source modular blockchain framework that powers OP Mainnet and all other chains in the Superchain — including Base, Zora Network, Mode, and others. Optimism Bridge supports bridging between Ethereum and any OP Stack-compatible chain. Because all Superchain networks share the same technical foundation, bridging assets with Optimism Bridge is consistent and reliable regardless of which chain you're moving funds to or from. Optimism is actively developing the Superchain vision to create an interconnected network of Layer 2 chains.
